My Rant on Modern Video Gaming

It's been awhile, both for a post on this blog, AND me posting a good fucking rant!

This is my Rant on Current Video Game Consoles and Gaming in general.

This has been something that has slowly building, one could say since that day in December 2010 that I brought home my PS3. Gone are the days of just popping in a game and playing, no more can you come home and pop in that new game and give the first level a quick run through, or just poke around and check out the game out a little. Nope everything needs to be installed and updated. If you are lucky, you will only have to wait an hour, then you hopefully have some time to check out a game before bed, parenting, housework, spending time with the family, etc..

And as if having to wait to install and update that brand new game wasn't bad enough, Now you have to hope the company that released the game actually bothered to test it and release a playable game, and if you are really lucky it's actually a finished and complete game......Yeah too many game companies are just shoving their stuff out onto the market unfinished, to be updated at some point just to appease some fucking money grubbing fucking stockholders. Then you hope that they sold enough of those broken, unfinished games to justify the cost of fixing, updating and patching them. If it is a flop, why would they bother to continue to pour money into updating? Their boss would find that their talents are better spent elsewhere, like loot boxes and frivolous DLC. So instead of a playable game, you just got a drink coaster for your hard earned $60.00.

There are even consumers who see this practice as perfectly acceptable. Don't worry they say, company X will update it, they just had to get it out because corporate said so. Give em a break.

Fucking Really People?

By that logic it is perfectly acceptable for your doctor to open you up, but wait 6-8 weeks before fully finishing the operation because he has to wait to update the connections to your circulatory system. But you still have to fully pay for the job ahead of time. And in the mean time live your daily life with a large hole in your chest.

If that was the case, the Health department would be all over them for malpractice.

Or also by that same logic it would be perfectly acceptable to go down to your local car dealership,  buy yourself a brand new car, only to take delivery with the windshield, right rear wheel/tire and the left front door missing. To be updated with the parts at a future date. But again, you are expected to pay for it in full and take it home without those items.

If that were the case, the NHTSA (National Highway Transportation Safety Administration)  would be all over the car companies and NOT allowing them to sell them.

Next time you order a pizza, you make your order, pay your bill, tip your driver, crack open a beer and when you flip up the lid on your pizza box all you see is crust and sauce with a note - toppings to be updated at a future date..... Or you buy a new book, you are really into it, can't wait to see how it ends, only to find out the last 2 chapters are missing, with a note, to be updated at a future date.

How about going to the movies, dealing with all those fucking rude ass noisy, talkers, gas passers and FUCKING SELFISH ASSHOLE cellphone users, sitting through an hour and forty five minutes of an action packed nail biter of a movie to the climax, then bam, a banner comes across the screen saying, Finale to be updated in the future.

There would be a Riot!

You get my point, none of this would be acceptable

So someone please explain to me, Why then are video games any different??

When did it become perfectly acceptable to release a broken, unfinished and an unplayable product?

This is something that has been rolling around in my head for awhile, What finally set me off?

Thanks to Microsoft Studios and Playground Games,
This disturbing trend has now become a part of Video Game DLC as well.

The Lego Speed Champions DLC was released for Forza Horizon 4 on Thursday June 13th 2019, And don't get me wrong at all, it is fun (no matter what the haters say) But, The DLC is still incomplete as I type this on the evening of June 27th 2019.

If you haven't played a Forza Horizon game you unlock "barn finds" as you progress through the game and after you locate them and your mechanic gets them back to your garage, he restores them. And usually this only takes, maybe a half hour of in game play, But my daughter and I were playing the Lego DLC for Forza Horizon 4 a few days later and she asked if the barn find was ready yet? I said "You know what, I never saw a notification, let's go check it out" So we get into our garage, go to the barn finds and click on the last one, which is the Lego one and up pops the following image:

What? Really? Please wait for a future Forza Horizon 4 Content Update?? So now DLC is also being pushed out to consumers to pay full price for, and NOT be done, complete, etc...

WHAT THE FUCK GAMES INDUSTRY?!?!?!

Seriously, Fuck You!

If you are not going to put out a finished product, then don't. This is fucking ridiculous..... There is NO Fucking excuse. I am not an advocate for "Big Brother" having to watch over everything, but in a case like this, the degradation of the Video Game Industry, maybe they should get involved?

Thoughts?

  1. Couldn't agree more. The practice of releasing buggy, unfinished games has turned me in to a jaded, skeptical player. Seems to be in service to publicly held publishers who need to please their shareholders, at the expense of player experience.
